Clover and Bee
A few months back, I was shown the link to Snippet & Ink, a fabulous wedding blog full of great ideas and photos. In the archives, there was a wedding posted from September of last year, of a gal who got married right here in Lincoln. Her photography was done by Allison Garrett, who, because of the post, I hired to do my wedding (not to mention she is super cute and affordable!). Now the bride who was featured in those photos on Snippet & Ink has her own adorable blog, Clover and Bee. Just thought I'd share :)

Another fun project, this one for Photoshop, to learn the tools and adjustments. This one we were given the photos and had to cut them out and place into this document to make look like one fluid design.

I decided to dust off the ol' blog and post something. This is a poster I designed to promote Southeast's artistic publication that you can submit things like artwork, essays and poems to. The logo was provided, so my concept was that the 'sprouts' are your ideas and this publication will illuminate them. Ha. There's a chance it may get chosen for print and displayed around school. Either way, I had a great time creating it and my teacher seemed to love it.

I was just notified that I've been awarded a $500 scholarship for school! I've never gotten a scholarship in my life, so I'm super excited. And since tuition is very reasonable, it almost pays for the entire quarter. The best part is the scholarship title: Transfer Non-Traditional Student.

Team Chamuco
I'm not sure where my mind has been, I somehow forgot to mention that Andy and I have joined a Baggo competition. What is Baggo, you ask? Some call it Corn Hole, I've played it on a set called Sport Toss (the cheap Wal-Mart version-which I want!). It's a game where you throw bean bags across the lawn to a wooden board that has a hole in it. Anyway, our first game is tonight, which I also forgot about. Andy deemed us Team Chamuco, for the sole reason that we couldn't think of anything else, and he already has a t-shirt with that on it. So, now I have to figure out how to make a matching one. Another craft project for this afternoon.
Wish us luck, I hope I don't get a Mary Ellen.

Spring Break 2009...slightly different when you're 27.
I've been Etsy-obsessed lately, getting ideas...today I went to JoAnn Fabrics and got some sale fabric and toile to attempt to make headbands like this gal:

I'll be sure to post if they turn out half-way decent.
Side note...I'm in a bracket challenge with my old work and am currently #1! However, Pitt is currently tied at half-time with Oklahoma St...if they lose...down I go, as I have them winning the whole sha-bang. Grrrr.

This one's for you, Jasmine :)
Let's see...I had my final training session at Starbucks last night, where we (all new baristas in the area) learned about coffee tastings and food pairings, and how that changes the taste of the coffee. We learned about smelling, slurping, tasting words and regions from which the coffees come. I absolutely loved it. I'm even thinking of bringing a coffee press and fresh ground coffee to Napa and doing a little pairing on Saturday evening (time/sched permitting)! I really enjoyed it and I'm sure all my gals would, too. I think it's really cool how Starbucks makes you very knowledgeable and creates a feeling of wanting to learn more. I'm also starting to feel more confident behind the bar. At first I was nervous, even feeling a tad anxious before my shifts. Last Saturday I worked the front bar and was making drinks left and right. It felt great! I still need work on some of the specialty drinks, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it.
In school news...next week is finals, as the quarter is almost over...my, how time flies! I'm happy to be done and ready to jump in and start learning the 'good stuff'. I'm sure classes will start getting harder, but I'm ready to be challenged more. One class that I'm particularly excited about is called Print to Production. We are paired up with another student and we work at a press...learning the ins and outs of how it all works. Can't wait to get my hands dirty...and I hear that literally happens and that you're recommended to wear clothes you don't care about.
Hmmm...that's about it. Nothing too exciting. I work every night from today through Monday, so I won't be doing anything. I guess it's a good money-saving tactic :) I am meeting up with Christina for lunch on Saturday at our favorite soup place...Grateful Bread. It's a hippie little vegan soup shop. Literally all they sell is soup and cheese scones and 2 types of cookies. That is all. And we only love one of their soups: The Moroccan Tomato. Oh, if you could taste it. Along with the cheese scone. I'm salivating just thinking about it. However, there is a catch. EVERYONE loves the Moroccan Tomato. And twice, we have been in line, anxious to eat, when we get to the register to order and they take down the Moroccan Tomato sign, signaling that it is gone. One time I was forced to order another soup (NOT good) and as I'm taking my first bite, they bring out another kettle of the Moroccan. Why will they not tell you it's on the way? They are pretty anti-social, so there is little communication. Very similar to the Soup Nazi, only with hippies. Oh, and you can only pay with cash. But, all these things combined seems to make the soup even more enticing. I can't wait.
I came across my J-Lo: The Remixes CD last night and was listening to I'm Real on my way home from work tonight. Just made me think of all the care-free, fun nights of driving around with you girls, singing and laughing. I hope we have some equally fun times to come in the next couple of months...just us being stupid :)
On a much sadder side note, Andrew (my little brother), lost one of his very best friends in a construction accident last week. Going to his memorial service on Tuesday night was THE saddest thing I've ever done. It made me stop and think about how lucky we all are to have each other. And although I may not call or write nearly enough, I want you all to know that I always think of you and love you so much, and appreciate you all in my life. I am so blessed and lucky to know each of you and to call you my best friends. Thanks for being in my life :)
